Despacito is a song from 2017 released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It was the most popular streamed song in the world within the space of six months. It was a mixture of pop music and reggaeton has not just brought attention to reggaeton but it also drew interest towards Latin music generally. The Billboard Top 100 included four mostly Spanish songs in 2016, and two songs in 2015. However, during the heights of the Despacito's popularity in 2017 there were 19 predominantly Spanish songs that were included in the Top 100. And in 2020 there were 41. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 as a bilingual rendition. Soon, other artistes collaborated with Reggaeton's biggest stars such as Drake as well as Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma together with Medellin 2019. The gradual mainstreaming of reggaeton became a concern for some performers in the year 2020. Rauw alejandro and a younger generation wanted to preserve the style. Incorporating elements of electronic dance music, as well as various other genres was a typical procedure.
